[Known Issues] Post Neutron Upgrade

The Neutron upgrade is complete. There are some minor known issues you may face with instances that were booted before the upgrade.

  • Suspend disabled – If you need to suspend you should first either stop/start or hard reboot your instance, failing to do so will result in this error message: ERROR (Conflict): Instance c18b1d0b-c56f-44a0-8b76-2804f5e06b4b cannot be suspended, please stop/start or hard reboot first (HTTP 409)
  • Snapshot disabled – If you need to snapshot you must first either start/stop or hard reboot your instance, failing to do so will result in this error message: ERROR (Conflict): Instance c18b1d0b-c56f-44a0-8b76-2804f5e06b4b is in an invalid state for ‘createImage’ (HTTP 409)
  • Issues with metadata – The Neutron metadata service runs on dedicated hardware. Normally this is advertised to instances via Neutron’s DHCP service, but if a pre-Neutron instance is not running regular DHCP discovery it may not be able to access the new metadata service. To fix this you may need to force a DHCP update in your instance (e.g., on Linux images this can be done by running: sudo dhclient -v -1)
  • Hostname changes to host-XXX-… – Reboot or run e.g. curl http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/hostname | xargs hostname
